Abhishek rose to prominence as the writer-director of Hellaro (2019), the first Gujarati film to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. Before that, he worked as a casting director on popular films like Bey Yaar, Chhello Divas, and Wrong Side Raju. Tejal, his wife and frequent creative collaborator, received a Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards for her powerful performance in Hellaro. Their upcoming film Umbarro (2025) continues their streak of meaningful, rooted storytelling. In this episode, we explore their journey from theatre to cinema, their creative process, and how they’re reshaping Gujarati film.
